FECA Fraud Awareness

This course provides workers’ compensation and program personnel with a practical framework for identifying, evaluating, and responding to potential workers’ compensation fraud under FECA. Participants will learn how to distinguish fraud from abuse, recognize red flag indicators, apply prevention and evaluation tools, and understand their role in the referral process.

Emphasis is placed on protecting program integrity, mitigating costs, preserving evidence, and ensuring referrals to the Office of Inspector General are timely, well‑documented, and compliant with federal requirements.

  • Define workers’ compensation fraud and differentiate it from abuse based on intent and regulatory standards
  • Identify common red flag indicators and apply them during claim intake and ongoing case review
  • Evaluate cases using checklists, prevention strategies, and administrative investigation tools to determine appropriate next steps
