A Practical Guide to Occupational Disease Claims

This course is designed to help participants understand and manage the complexities of occupational disease (OD) claims under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA), with a special focus on stress-related conditions. Attendees will learn how to differentiate between CA-1 and CA-2 claims, identify compensable versus non-compensable factors, and apply best practices for evaluating and documenting OD claims.

The course will also explore the unique challenges of stress claims, including how to assess performance of duty, determine causality, and respond to allegations with clarity and compliance. Through case-based learning and regulatory guidance, participants will gain the tools to confidently manage claims that often lack visible symptoms but carry significant impact.
